Are you confused when photographers talk about mini sessions and full sessions? You’re not alone! So here’s a quick guide to what most photographers mean when they say mini session or full session.
Let’s start with the basics, what are the general differences between mini and full sessions?
Mini Session Basics:
- Short and sweet 15-20min session.
- A chosen location and theme by photographer
- Date is chosen by photographer
- You sign up in specific time slots.
- Not as time consuming on your part
Full/Regular Session Basics:
- You choose the date/season/theme
- These sessions are often personalized
- Full sessions usually offer outfit changes
- Often more than one location
- 30min-2hr in duration
So, now that we’ve seen some of the basic differences let’s dive a little more into why photographers offer both of these options! Keep in mind, not all photographers offer mini sessions. I find that I love to do them so I offer them periodically throughout the year!
Why Mini Sessions?
I love to offer mini sessions as a super fun and creative way to give my clients a chance to capture their family in this season with minimal commitment from them! Mini sessions are usually themed, so think Christmas minis, sunflower field minis, Mother’s Day minis, etc. They are different for every photographer, I will dive into why I offer them a little later.
Pros and Cons of Mini and Full Sessions:
Mini Sessions:
Pros – mini sessions are super short and sweet! But don’t get caught in thinking short means skipping on quality. I prioritize taking care of my clients, and I will make sure to the best of my ability that you have a wonderful time. You will also receive many beautiful images from your session! They take minimal commitment from you, I see you busy mom who doesn’t have time to book a full session. Mini sessions are SO FUN!
Cons – Honestly, I don’t really think I have any! Other than I don’t get to spend very much time with you, I love getting to know my clients a little bit during sessions.
Regular/full Sessions:
Pros – Usually Full sessions are designed to be customizable! I love it when my seniors or families have a vision for their session. With a full session you will get 30min-2hrs depending on what package you choose, this allows for more time for you to have outfit changes, different locations and fully personalize your session.
Cons – The only con I can think of is that it can be difficult to align schedules to fit a full hour session, but it is doable!
In wrapping up the pros and cons, you can see that both session options are great for meeting different needs! I genuinely couldn’t think of any cons as both are such a great way to document your family in the season you’re in.
Why I Offer Mini Sessions.
I feel like people usually understand booking a full session as that is most common, so I want to spend a little time expanding on why I offer mini sessions. First off, they are just SO FUN! I love really niching down on one specific topic and going all out on it. As the client, you really get such a great deal with mini sessions. If planning is not really your thing then it’s absolutely perfect because I do all the planning, all you have to do is book and show up! So simple. I prioritize creating an experience with my clients, it’s more than just photos. It’s about creating memories, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere, capturing the memories created, and serving you. Minis are a great quick, simple, affordable, fun and easy way to capture your family. I highly suggest everyone book at least one mini session once just to experience it!
So there you have it! A basic overview of the differences between mini sessions and full sessions, I hope you found this helpful.
