Get to Know Them
Often times photographers have a social media account you can follow and feel out their personality. The “about” page on their website should also give you an idea of how they view life and their personality. This is important because you want to be able to relax during your session and you can relax better when you feel like you already know someone! So, go stalk them! But don’t be weird about it.
Location/Where are They Based?
How far away from the photographer are you? These are things to consider because most photographers include a travel fee after a certain distance from their base location, which is totally understandable. Just be willing to pay that extra fee if you want a photographer to travel to you.
Check Out Their Editing Style
This one is HUGE! I don’t think it gets talked about enough. Before you book a photographer make sure you look through their portfolio (Most have a portfolio page on their website or Instagram provides a portfolio as well). It is super important to make sure you love their style.
Are You Ready to Inquire?
Usually, a photographer will request all inquiries go through the contact link in their website. Running a business is not easy and there are so many things to do so having all inquiries come through one place relieves a ton of stress. DMs often get pushed on the back burner so are not the best way to contact in most cases. However, please keep in mind that each photographer is different, but if they request all inquiries to go through email or website, please respect that.
